Professional Background

Knut Gerber completed his studies in foreign trade at the University of Economics in Berlin-Karlshorst (now the University of Applied Sciences for Engineering and Economics HTW) (Dipl. oec.).

Since then, he has gained decades of diverse professional experience both in Germany and abroad, particularly in Southeast Europe and the South Caucasus.

He has held leading positions in international development projects, including for GTZ, UNDP, GIZ, the IHK Export Academy Stuttgart, and the IHK Academy Munich and Upper Bavaria.

His expertise ranges from the development of regional clusters and value chains to export promotion and institutional strengthening of chambers of commerce and vocational education reforms.

He has been actively involved in the transformation of public institutions, EU lobbying management, the development of the wine and tourism sectors in several countries, as well as various training and facilitation programs. In addition, Knut brings in-depth knowledge in intercultural management, state protocol, and economic development.


Vision

As an expert with decades of experience in transformation processes, Knut is convinced that sustainable economic development can only be achieved through the targeted promotion of local resources, innovative educational programs, and the strengthening of business networks.

He sees close cooperation between public institutions, chambers of commerce, and the private sector as the key to successful regional development and international competitiveness.


Role at the MIT-Center

At the MIT-Center, Knut contributes his broad international experience and expertise in economic and educational cooperation.

Through his work with chambers of commerce, winegrowers’ associations, and international organizations, he supports the center in developing practice-oriented projects, particularly in the fields of vocational education, dual training, tourism promotion, and export development.

His many years of work in the South Caucasus are a valuable contribution to the further internationalization of the MIT-Center’s activities.
